Lucy Maud Montgomery (* 30. 11. 1874, Clifton - † 24. 4. 1942, Toronto)
nejznámnější a nejoblíbenější kanadská autorka pro děti
Narodila se v Cliftonu (dnešní New London) na ostrově Prince Edwarda v Kanadě. Když byly Lucy Maud necelé dva roky, zemřela její maminka a její otec se přestěhoval do západní Kanady, kde se pozdeji znovu oženil. Maud zůstala na farmě u svých prarodičů na ostrově Prince Edwarda v Cavendishu. Ve svých devíti letech začala psát poezii a vedla si deník.
V tetech 1893-1894 studovala na Prince of Wales College a získala učitelskou licenci. V roce 1898 učila na škole v Lower Bedeque. Tenkrát zemřel její dědeček. Maud pak zůstala v domě s babičkou celých 13 let, kde psala a tvořila.
V roce 1905 napsala Maud svoji první knihu Anna ze Zeleného domu a poslala ji do mnoha vydavatelství. Když ji ale všude odmítli, uložila svůj rukopis do krabice a zapomněla na něj. O dva roky to zkusila znovu a Anna Shirleyová spatřila světlo světa v knižní podobě. To se stalo v roce1908.
Po smrti babičky se vdala za reverenda Ewena Macdonalda, se kterým byla tajně zasnoubená od roku 1906. Přestěhovali se do Leaskdale (v Ontariu), kde se později narodily jejich tři děti a Maud tu napsala většinu svých knih. Po svatbě už nikdy na ostrově Prince Edwarda nežila. Vracela se tam už jen jako návštěva. Spisovatelka zemřela v Torontu.
